The Cambria Heights School District has agreed to settle a federal lawsuit filed by a former student.
According to the agreement, the district’s insurer will pay the former student, identified only as Jane Doe, a total of $1.3 million. Former teacher Isaac Vescovi has agreed to pay $20,000 as part of the resolution.
The lawsuit alleges the district was aware of an illegal relationship between the student and Vescovi but failed to intervene.
Under the terms of the agreement, the district and Vescovi deny liability and wrongdoing, saying the settlement is a practical resolution to avoid the burden, expense, and uncertainty of continued legal action. Vescovi was criminally charged in the case and sentenced to jail time in May of last year.
