Elmer Riley Dorr, 81, of Indiana, passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana.
A son of Edward H. and Mary Margaret (Calhoun) Dorr, he was born July 18, 1944, in White Township.
Elmer was a 1962 graduate of Indiana High School and a member of Indiana County Farm Bureau. For over 25 years, he was a rural mail carrier by day, but by evening you could find him on the family farm. Farming was in his blood. After a day in the fields, Elmer could be found tending to his mother’s flower garden or in his shop.
Friends and neighbors could always rely on Elmer to fix anything that was broken. If repair parts were not available, Elmer would fix them or make them no matter the material: metal, wood or plastic. If Elmer could not fix it, it wasn’t worth fixing!”
Elmer was a faithful steward of the land and to animals in his care. His eternal rest is well deserved.
He is survived by his brothers, Francis Dorr and wife Jane, of Indiana; and Frank Dorr and wife Marie, of Indiana; numerous cousins and all those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at Robinson-Lytle-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 36 N 7th Street, Indiana, where additional visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, with Pastor Steve Rearick officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
