While they worry over the status of Sidney Crosby at the Olympics, the Penguins continue to focus on the resumption of their season next Thursday against New Jersey. Yesterday, coach Dan Muse said the only information he had on Crosby was the report by Team Canada coach John Cooper that Crosby could play again in the final two games, depending on how his injured knee feels today. Team Canada plays Finland in the semifinals at 10:40 AM (our time) today. Team USA plays at 3:10 this afternoon against Slovakia.
On the ice in Cranberry yesterday, the Penguins pressed assistant coach Nick Bonino into service…wearing goaltender gear. Coach Dan Muse said afterward that Bonino might need some coaching up if he’s going to do that again.
Muse says with five players still away at the Olympics, the Penguins have had to be creative at their practices.
Defenseman Jack St. Ivany was on the ice again yesterday. He’s missed three of a projected eight weeks after having hand surgery last month. Muse said there is no change in his status.
