Virginia Mae (Clawson) Sloan, 102, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.
The daughter of John B. and Gladys Ida (Shank) Clawson, she was born July 31, 1923, in Blacklick Twp., Indiana County, PA.
Virginia was a veteran of the US Women’s Army Corp and served in World War II.
She owned and operated Sloan’s Beauty Shop, Cokeville.
Virginia was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, a past president and lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 5821, and the American Legion Post # 0407, all of Blairsville.
She was an avid reader, but most of all loved spending time with her family especially her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Surviving are four children, Sandra M. George (Bob) of Blairsville, Linda G. Meloy (Jim) of Derry, Mary Lou Bracken (Duane) of Blairsville, and Michael P. Sloan (Sharon) of Blairsville; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Sloan of Pikeville, KY; eight grandchildren, Sherry Hallow, Brandy Gardner, Heather Gorr, Angela Verba, James Meloy III, Michael Caughman, and Jacob Sloan; 16 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John A. “Bud” Sloan on September 19, 1998; a son, John “Bo” Sloan; two grandchildren, Holly George and Robert C. George III; two sisters, Lulu Palmer and Hilda Kim; and three brothers, Charles Clawson, William Clawson, and Walter Clawson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where a Wake service will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville. Prayers of Transfer will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 12 PM followed by a funeral Mass at 12:30 PM at SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Pham celebrant.
Interment will be in the SS Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.
Military Services will be accorded by the Blairsville Military Honor Guard.
