The Indiana County NAACP chapter has announced some events to celebrate Black History Month.
The activities include a general meeting and movie night tomorrow evening at the Indiana Theater starting at 5:00. Two films will be screened: A 2024 documentary called “Innovators of Black History” and the 2016 historical drama “Hidden Figures”. A brief general meeting will follow the movies. Admission is free.
A lecture will be held Saturday from 5-7 PM at the Philadelphia Street Playhouse. The featured speakers include IUP history professor Dr. Xi Wang and Indiana County NAACP President Dr. Carolyn Princes. The topic will be “Intimately Connected! African Americans and Pennsylvania.” While admission is free, it is requested that people register in advance.
A celebratory evening will be held at the Indiana Eagles Lodge on February 26th from 6-9 PM. The evening will commemorate a century of black history, and will feature DJ music, black history bingo, trivia games, special guests and more. Admission for that is $25 and registration is requested.
