With their wins over Slippery Rock on Saturday, the IUP basketball teams remain on course for both the PSAC title and a spot in the NCAA Atlantic Regionals. The women have a one-game lead over Gannon for the top spot in the PSAC West, while the men are in third, two games out of the top spot. Both teams have clinched their spot in the conference tournament.
Up next for both teams, home doubleheaders Wednesday against Seton Hill and Saturday for Senior Night against Clarion.
Women’s coach Craig Carey knows both games will be tough for his team, and he is going to need everybody contributing, not just the starters.
After a couple of his players have struggled in recent games, men’s coach Joe Lombardi admired the way they picked themselves up on Saturday. It’s the kind of effort he is going to need moving forward.
After this week’s games, both IUP teams will close the regular season with doubleheaders against Cal and Gannon. The PSAC Tournaments begin on March 2nd.
BEVO FRANCIS AWARD
The Small College Basketball and the National Awards Committee have announced the top 50 finalists for the Bevo Francis Award, and IUP’s Dallis Dillard is on the list. The award honors the top player across small college basketball, including NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA programs.
Dillard is averaging 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game. He’s one of two PSAC players named to the top 50 list, joined by sophomore Pace Prosser from Gannon
