The main topic up for discussion at the White Township Supervisor’s meeting this afternoon was blighted and dangerous property.
The first item was the approval to advertise a “junked, abandoned and nuisance motor vehicle” ordinance, which is something that some residents spoke about during public comment.
The ordinance defines a “junked motor vehicle” as any motorized device that a person may be transported by on public highway which is not in working order, does not have current registration or valid inspection sticker, and has been kept outside of an enclosed building for more than 15 days. The goal of the ordinance is to minimize safety hazards created by these vehicles.
Township Manager Chris Anderson says that this ordinance will take care of anything that fits under that definition, regardless of classification.
That ordinance is expected to come up for approval at their meeting on March 11th.
Another item on the agenda was the authorization to proceed with the clean-up of a blighted property that sits on North 5th street behind the former Bilo. The building falls under the townships “dangerous structure” ordinance, which sites safety concerns due to things like collapsed roofs, broken windows, and general clutter.
Anderson says that this isn’t the first time the property has been cleaned up.
A contract is being worked out with Dan Marsh for approximately $14,000.
In other business, supervisors approved changing the start time of their February 25th meeting to 11 am so that members of the board could attend the America 250 kickoff event in downtown Indiana.
