BASKETBALL
The WPIAL playoff brackets were released yesterday with both Indiana teams in the field. The girls will play a first round game on Friday, at home against Mars. The boys will open with a first-round game at Gateway next Tuesday.
BOYS
Sam Chapman hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Quaker Valley a 76-75 win in overtime over Indiana. Indiana falls to 13-8. They were led by Darius Webb with 18 points and brother Aaron Webb scored 17.
United keeps rolling, now 23-0 after knocking off a tough 15-4 Berlin-Brothersvalley team, 53-48. Dmitri Worthington led the way with 14 points. Carter Payne added 12 and Ryan Felix 10 for the Lions.
Marion Center lost in overtime, 75-72 to Moniteau. Kamden Rozier scored 27 points for the Stingers and became the tenth boys player in school history to top the 1,000-point mark. Hayden Fox added 14, Tyler Pack 13, and Josiah Bish 10.
Homer-Center took on Summitt Academy last night and lost, 66-51. For the Wildcats, Joey Kosmack scored 13 points and Gabe Cobaugh 11.
On their senior night, West Shamokin pummeled Purchase Line, 72-47. Alex Talmadge, Aiden Oesterling, and Vince Harkleroad all scored 15 points and coach Judd McCullough said the star of the game was the team, which piled up 20 assists. Ryan Matko and Nolan Engel each scored 12 for Purchase Line, and Jacob Kaufman and Ian Layden each had 10.
Portage dropped a 50-31 decision to Windber. Tyson Burkett scored 12 points to lead the Mustangs.
HOCKEY
Indiana trailed Montour 2-0 after one period but scored the next three goals in the second to take a 3-2 lead. But Montour finished the scoring with two more in the second to win the game at the RMU Sports Complex, 4-3.
Trey Varga and Talon Bruce Miller each scored twice for the Spartans. Indiana’s goals were scored by Nick Tew, Leonard Frich, and Zendo Dzuro. Joey Mains had two assists and Samuel Frich had one. Jake Jadzak made 36 saves.
