Even though it’s too cold to go fishing, the state Fish and Boat commission is making preparations for the upcoming trout season.
The PFBC will stock approximately 3.2 million adult trout in 684 streams and 130 lakes open to public angling. Stocking is set to begin the week of Feb. 16 in advance of the statewide Mentored Youth Trout Day on Saturday, March 28, and the statewide opening day of trout season on Saturday, April 4. The commission has announced trout stocking schedules for the year, and for Indiana County, those will take place between February 24th and March 26th.
Volunteers are welcome to help with the restocking efforts. Individuals and groups up to four people can show up on the day, but larger groups need to register with the PFBC law enforcement office. For Indiana County, call 814-445-8974.
