The River Valley School District is continuing the process to appeal a decision by an Indiana County Judge to remain a part of ICTC for the next eleven years.
River Valley’s request to leave the group two years ago was initially rejected by the other member districts. After several hearings, Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco said that neither ICTC nor River Valley intended the agreement to join would be terminable at will, nor would it be indefinite without a process in place to leave without the unanimous consent of the other districts. Bianco ruled that districts could leave the consortium 13 years from the date of departure notice, allowing students currently in Kindergarten a chance to take advantage of ICTC classes.
In an interview on Indiana in the Morning today, River Valley superintendent Philip Martel said they were continuing the appeals process. He said that while he respects the judge, he disagrees with the ruling.
As the request came in May of 2024, the earliest the district could leave would be May of 2037.
