A preliminary hearing is set for today for a man charged with attempted carjacking in Homer City Borough and trying to flee police afterwards.
Court documents show that 57-year-old Scipio Griffin of Johnstown was charged in connection with incidents on December 22nd on North Main Street. Troopers said he tried to steal two cars. In the first attempt, he reportedly pulled a woman out of the vehicle, hurting her in the process, but believed that she had a key fob that was required to operate the vehicle so he abandoned it. When he tried to steal another car, the driver locked the door. He then climbed into the bed of a pickup truck and rode it to the Homer City Borough Building and Police Station, where he later got out. State police would find him near Ridge Avenue and Route 119 near the Center Township/Homer City Borough line. He tried to flee on foot, but police deployed a taser to subdue him.
He is charged with two counts of robbery of a motor vehicle along with single counts of resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot, simple assault and harassment.
