Officials say that the fire that destroyed a long-standing restaurant in Ligonier Township was accidental in nature.
State police fire marshals say in a news release that the fire that ultimately destroyed Ruthie’s Diner along Route 30 just east of Ligonier Borough started in or near a cooking appliance in the kitchen and was fueled by an active natural gas line until it was shut off. Firefighters were on scene for about five hours not only battling the flames but also dealing with the severe cold conditions.
The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is continuing.
