Indiana County’s District Courts resume operation today with several preliminary hearings, including one for a man accused of trying to steal cars in Homer City.
Court documents show 57-year-old Scipio B. Griffin of Johnstown is charged with two counts of robbery of a motor vehicle along with single counts of resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot, simple assault and harassment for the incident on December 22nd. State police say he tried to take two different cars North Main Street. On one occasion, he injured a victim as he pulled her out. After a second attempt failed, he climbed into the bed of a pickup truck and fled after it stopped at the borough building and police headquarters. He was found near Ridge Avenue and Route 119 in Center Township and after a chase on foot, he was taken into custody.
Also due for a preliminary hearing is 21-year-old Jacob Buggey of Indiana, who is charged with child sexual abuse material possession and criminal use of a communications facility for an incident that goes back to October 21st of last year.
Both hearings will be held before District Judge Susanne Steffee.
