The Steelers announced today that “we have verbally agreed for Mike McCarthy to become our next head coach.”
According to reports, McCarthy is being offered a five-year deal.
McCarthy has by far the most experience as a head coach of any candidate the Steelers have interviewed to replace Mike Tomlin, who recently resigned as Steelers head coach.
McCarthy previously served in the same capacity with the Dallas Cowboys from 2020 to 2024. From 2006 to 2018, he was the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. In 2011, McCarthy led the team to a win in Super Bowl XLV over his hometown Steelers. He was also the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints.
McCarthy coached quarterback Aaron Rodgers at Green Bay, which included a Super Bowl XLV win over the Steelers in 2011.
