At a news conference today, Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl released more information on a stabbing last night that nearly killed a female victim.
Police arrested 30-year-old Detroien Trezmen Hobbs of Baltimore on charges of attempted homicide, burglary, aggravated assault and possession of an instrument of crime for the incident reported at 8:49 PM in the 1100 block of Oak Street. Officers had to force their way in and found the victim, Hobbs and a person that the victim was providing care for who witnessed the incident. Because of the quick response and cooperative efforts of Indiana and IUP police and Citizen’s Ambulance, the victim is expected to survive her injuries. Schawl said that Hobbs had met the victim online two months ago and came to Indiana earlier this month to be with her but became abusive and reportedly struck her when she said that the relationship wasn’t working but she never reported it.
Schawl said that it is important for anyone who is abused to seek help.
Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi was quick to praise the joint efforts of those who responded.
The Alice Paul House is helping the victim.
Bail was denied for Hobbs at his preliminary hearing this morning in front of District Judge Robert Bell and he is now in Indiana County Jail awaiting a preliminary hearing on February 4th.
