Members of the PA Game Commission Board will consider some schedule changes for rifle deer season this year.
The Commission meets next Friday and Saturday and on the agenda is a proposal to move the start of rifle deer season back a week to the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Those in favor of that plan say the move would promote participation by allowing residents to head out hunting before they have to worry about traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday.
If the change is approved, then other schedule modifications would be made, including starting firearms bear season a week earlier and shortening the early bear muzzleloader, archery and special firearms seasons to a single weekend.
Other topics that the board will address include the expansion of Sunday hunting to the 2027 spring gobbler season, while limiting hunters to one bird and eliminating the option to buy a second turkey tag that year.
