State police have filed charges against a Johnstown man for trying to steal cars in Homer City last month.
Troopers accuse 57-year-old Scipio Griffin in connection with attempted carjackings on North Main Street on December 22nd. Police believe that around 6:41 PM, he pulled a woman out of her car and tried to drive off, but did not, believing she still had a keyfob needed to operate the car. He then tried to open the door of another occupied vehicle, but the driver sped off. He then climbed into the bed of a passing pickup truck and later fled on foot when the truck stopped at the Homer City Borough Office and Police Station. Police later found him near Ridge Avenue and Route 119 near the Homer City Borough/Center Township line. The suspect tried to flee on foot but was apprehended after police used a taser. He continued to resist as he was taken into custody.
Griffin faces two felony counts of attempted robbery of a motor vehicle along with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention on foot and simple assault and a summary count of harassment. Charges were filed through District Judge Susanne Steffee’s office. He remains in Indiana County Jail.
