There are now three different dogs that have been killed or injured after suffering electric shocks in Pittsburgh over the last couple of years.
WPXI-TV reported on the situation yesterday, saying the incidents have happened in Squirrel Hill, Oakland, and the Strip District. Montana Mitchell says she thought her chocolate lab, Denim, was going to die while being shocked by a damaged light post in the Strip District during the latest incident. A border collie was killed after stepping on an electrified metal plate in Squirrel Hill in January of 2024.
After that dog’s death, a consultant recommended at all street lights in the city be inspected. That work has not yet been completed, but a spokesperson for Mayor O’Connor’s office says the process is now underway.
