The Penguins yesterday signed energetic forward Blake Lizotte to a three-year contract extension carrying a salary cap hit of $2.25 million. The 28-year-old is in the final year of a two-year free agent deal he signed when he joined the team last year. Lizotte typically plays on the fourth line and is one of the team’s top penalty killers. He has scored five goals with five assists this season, averaging 13:57 on the ice per game.
The Penguins also yesterday sent defenseman Caleb Jones to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for a conditioning assignment. Jones has been out since October 23rd when he suffered a suspected left foot injury while blocking a shot against the Florida Panthers. He returned to practice with the Pens last weekend.
The Penguins face off with the Tampa Bay Lightning shortly after 7 o’clock tonight at PPG Paints Arena. We’re on the air on 92.5 FM U92 at 6.
