With Bryan Rust sidelined with an undisclosed injury, the Penguins could generate no offense over the weekend, falling to the Calgary Flames, 2-1 on Saturday and to the Boston Bruins, 1-0 yesterday. Paul Steigerwald has the story.
Coach Dan Muse says the Pens weren’t busy enough in front of the Bruins’ net.
Muse says spending so much time killing penalties upset his line rotations and kept a lot of players on the bench.
Rust is termed “day to day” with his undisclosed injury. With him out of the lineup, Kevin Hayes rejoined the lineup and played his 799th and 800th games of his NHL career.
The Penguins will play three straight home games this week, against the Lightning tomorrow night, the Flyers on Thursday, and the Blue Jackets on Saturday. Then they will fly west to play Seattle, Calgary, and Edmonton next week.
