Thursday night, the Homer-Center School Board interviewed and selected a new member to fill a vacancy on the board.
Tory Dellafiora was selected to take the seat of Kelly Elliot. While Elliot was elected to the board in November, she decided not to accept the position as she was moving out of the area. During her interview, Dellafiora said that the biggest thing in serving on the school board was the opportunities they have to see the work done in the schools.
She will serve until the next school board election.
During the planning meeting that followed, the board briefly discussed the Act 1 index resolution which will go up for approval at the next meeting. The district’s index rate calculated by the State Department of Education is 5.1%, which will be the maximum that the district will be able to increase taxes.
