Janet L. Houser, 62, of Marion Center, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
A daughter of Murray and Ruth (Mears) Martin, she was born on September 25, 1963, at Indiana Hospital.
Janet was a 1981 graduate of Marion Center High School where she was co-captain of the majorette squad, and worked as a bookkeeper for GLR Mining Company, Twinbrook Coal Company, and Gandolfi Accounting.
She was a member of Tanoma Church, Indiana County Jr. Livestock Committee, Whitetails Unlimited, NWTF. Janet enjoyed attending 22 shoots at Keystone Sportsmen Club, deer hunting, and hosting hunter lunches during deer season. Janet also liked to bake and make her famous “sticky buns” for family and friends.
On April 26, 1986, Janet married the love of her life, Donald Houser. They shared 39 years together. Janet will be remembered as the family member who always remembered everyone’s birthday and anniversary.
She is survived by her husband and the following siblings: Ray (Sandy) Martin, Sandy (Lloyd) Murphy, Linda Martin, Larry (Ann) Martin, and sister-in-law, Kim Martin, as well as mother-in-law, Nancy (Steele) Houser; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill (Susie) Houser, Debbie (Dane) Shultz, Jeff (Leslie) Houser, Shari (Tom) Frech, and Curt (Heather) Sharp. Janet will be greatly missed by her numerous nephews, nieces and friends. She was a special GiGi to her great-great nephews and great-great niece, Walker, Weston and Wrentley.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gary Martin, father-in-law, Charlie Houser, and great-niece, Aurora Shultz.
Family and friends will be received from 1 – 8 pm Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Bowser Minich Funeral Home, 500 Ben Franklin Road S, Indiana, where the funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with The Reverends Lois Jackson and Jude Urso as officiants. Private family interment to follow in Oakland Cemetery.
