The Pirates missed out on their big free agent target, Japanese slugging third baseman Kazuma Okamoto, but they’ve improved their roster so much this offseason that ESPN has something of note for Buccos fans…their “bold predictions” for 2026 include Jorge Castillo’s forecast that the Pirates will make the playoffs this year and Tristan Cockroft predicts that Konnor Griffin will win National League Rookie of the Year.
The Pirates haven’t announced the date yet but pitchers and catchers will report to Bradenton just a little over a month from now. The first Grapefruit league game is against the Orioles on February 21st.
Pirates Fest at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh is on January 24th.
