With the break of day, huge celebrations are beginning in both Caracas and South Florida as Venezuelans celebrate the capture and arrest of President Nicholas Maduro and his wife. Hundreds are gathering right now in Doral, Florida at a restaurant where Venezuelans have been speaking out for decades against injustices in their country. Video posted on social media shows similar celebrations underway in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas.
Maduro has been under indictment in the United States since 2020 and a 50-million-dollar reward had been offered for his arrest. Attorney General Pam Bondi said this morning that the Venezuelan President will be prosecuted on charges related to drug trafficking and terrorism. Maduro and his wife were reportedly captured in Venezuela by U.S. law enforcement with the support of the Delta Force Special Operations unit.
It is unknown whether the U.S. military is still engaged with Venezuelan security forces, however reports from the region indicate that the initial attack – which lasted about 30 minutes – destroyed much of the country’s military communications infrastructure. President Trump has said that he will provide additional information about the operation during a news conference at 11 a.m.
