Coach Mike Tomlin says he’s optimistic about the injured Steelers who could return to action on Sunday night against Baltimore, and that includes TJ Watt, who has been out for the last three games after suffering a partially punctured lung. Tomlin also listed wide receiver Calvin Austin III, offensive left guard Isaac Seumalo, cornerbacks James Pierre and Brandin Echols, and inside linebacker Malik Harrison as potential returnees, saying that practice participation will guide his gametime decisions.
Tomlin says he’s not as interested in the Steelers’ poor play in Sunday’s loss at Cleveland as he is in the upcoming game against Baltimore.
The coach says he’s not concerned with whether or not Watt is in “football shape” after sitting out three weeks.
The wide receiver corps played poorly on Sunday in the absence of the suspended DK Metcalfe and the injured Austin. Tomlin says he expects them to be better this week.
Tight end Darnell Washington’s season is over. Tomlin said Washington had surgery yesterday on his broken arm, suffered on a reception on Sunday in Cleveland.
HALL OF FAME
Former Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward did not advance in the balloting for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He’s been a semifinalist ten times but never made the finals.
