As heavier snow showers are expected to hit the area today, drivers are reminded that they are responsible for the snow on their vehicles.
PennDOT issued the reminder that it is illegal to drive with snow or ice that blocks your windows. Along with clearing that off the windows, the agency says that drivers have to make a reasonable effort clear snow and ice off their cars within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm, especially the roof. This is part of Christine’s Law. Violators face a minimum $50 fine with the potential of higher fines if damage occurs along with a possible negligent driving charge.
PennDOT also advises people to make sure their emergency kits are good for the winter weather, including flashlight, batteries, blanket, warm clothes, ice scraper, shovel, sand or traction aid and other items.
