After an extended holiday break, Indiana County’s courts have many cases on the docket today, including one for a man charged with fleeing from police.
Court documents show 31-year-old Nicholas Empfield will go before District Judge Michael Clark this morning for a sentencing hearing. He faces charges of aggravated assault by vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest and other crimes related to the chase on April 9th of this year. Empfield was riding his motorcycle with 40-year-old Amanda Baker, as the two were trying to shake police officers chasing them on Blue Spruce Road north of 7th Street. During the pursuit, Empfield missed a right turn and lost control of the bike. Both had minor injuries suffered in the crash.
Also due in court today is 63-year-old Michael Yeckley, who faces charges of burglary and criminal trespassing for an incident dating back to November 26th of last year.
