IRMC has received accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
The honor comes from a joint quality project of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The accreditation program’s goal is to ensure safe and effective performance of surgeries that focus on weight loss and treatment of obesity-related diseases like diabetes, sleep apnea and others.
IRMC President and CEO Steve Wolfe called the honor a significant achievement for the hospital and “a reflection of IRMC’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care close to home.” Dr. Brian Walkowski, the medical director of IRMC’s Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery program, said that his team works hard to deliver safe, evidence-based bariatric care, and the accreditation gives validation to the program’s quality and the expertise of the team.
With the accreditation, IRMC also becomes an American College of Surgeons quality partner, which signifies their dedication to constantly improving procedures and approaches, while keeping a critical eye on every step in the process.
