The Steelers beat the Dolphins on Monday night and afterward Mike Tomlin and his staff immediately got to work on a game plan for this Sunday’s game at Detroit. The 8-6 Lions will be desperate to win and try to work back into the NFC playoff picture and they have weapons on both offense and defense.
Tomlin says the Steelers will have to account for Lions All-Pro Aidan Hutchinson and his very talented defensive linemates.
On offense, quarterback Jared Goff leads a balanced attack featuring a running game with lead backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. The coach says they have to pressure Goff to get him off-balance.
Tomlin says it is crunch time in NFL for playoff hopefuls.
The injury situation for the Steelers is typical of late-season football. The biggest question mark is the availability of edge rusher TJ Watt. Tomlin had no new information on Watt’s lung condition.
Run-stuffing rookie defensive lineman Derrick Harmon is expected back from his knee injury this week and guard Isaac Seumalo and linebacker Nick Herbig have a chance to play after being injured Monday night. Tackle Andrus Peat (concussion) and cornerback James Pierre (calf muscle) are question marks after missing Monday night’s game.
