Indiana County officials are seeing a rash of cases where properties are being sold illegally right out from under the true owners.
In an interview on Indiana in the Morning on Tuesday, Indiana County Recorder of Deeds Maria Jack said that first of this string of scams was reported on November 21st. The scammer called up an out-of-town realtor claiming they had a $450,000 property in Indiana County to sell, and they almost got away with it.
She talked about the types of properties that are being targeted in this scam.
Her office has talked with The Realtors Association to warn them of the scam. She said that her office is being more vigilant to protect identities, and she encourages people to sign up for the free property alert program on the Recorder of Deeds, Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans Court website.
