Many in central Indiana County felt and heard the result of some ongoing demolition yesterday at the Homer City Redevelopment site.
The ground vibration and explosive noise was due to the company’s contractor conducting a controlled implosion of structures at the former Homer City Generating Station at 4:45 PM yesterday. Representatives with Homer City Redevelopment say that boilers one and two were successfully demolished, but boiler three remains standing. Crews are currently assessing the situation with boiler three, and further plans will be announced at a later time.
Representatives say that once the final boiler is torn down, it will mark the final part of demolition and they will be able to move forward with further construction at the site.
Further updates will be announced on the Homer City Redevelopment Website and those who signed up for mobile notifications will be alerted to new plans via text message.
