The Penguins just endured a terrible weekend, squandering a four-goal lead in the third period to San Jose on Saturday and a three-goal lead in the third period to Utah yesterday, and losing both games in overtime. Here’s Paul Steigerwald with the story of yesterday’s mind-boggling loss.
Coach Dan Muse struggled to find the words to describe the weekend. He said he couldn’t believe that he was holding the same postgame media session Sunday that he held on Saturday…talking about an overtime loss after taking big multi-goal leads into the final period two days in a row.
Muse says the Penguins have a lot of self-examination ahead.
Muse says he expects the Penguins players to persevere.
The coach says the Penguins know the deal when teams are trailing after two periods. They’re not going to give up.
The work visa issues for the two players acquired from Edmonton last week in the Tristan Jarry trade should be resolved in time for them to be on the ice tomorrow night to play…Jarry and the Edmonton Oilers. Defenseman Brett Kulak and goaltender Stuart Skinner are Canadian citizens coming to work in the U.S. and they must await clearance from the federal government before they can even practice with the Pens.
The Penguins have lifted the suspension of minor league defenseman Eric Pieniniemi, who has agreed to report to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. The 20-year-old 2023 third round draft choice went home to Finland rather than join the Nailers when he was assigned there instead of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in October.
