The head of the Westmoreland County Airport Authority is looking to step down.
Executive Director Gabe Monzo announced his plans to retire yesterday. Monzo has overseen operations at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport and the small airport in Rostraver for 17 years, but his history with those facilities is much deeper. He started his career at what was known then as the Westmoreland County Regional Airport back in 1983, working in the maintenance department. He saw various promotions throughout the years before being named executive director in 2008.
Monzo is offering to stay on as a paid consultant for about six months to help with the transition when he leaves his position in April. He is recommending airport manager Maurice Haas as his successor.
