The Steelers and Ravens are both 6-6 heading into Sunday’s game in Baltimore, the first of two meetings between the AFC North co-leaders.
At Steelers’ practice yesterday, strong safety Kyle Dugger sat out with a hand injury. He was a new addition to the injury list. Calvin Anderson also sat out with a knee injury. Injured Steelers Patrick Queen, Joey Porter Jr., and Ben Skowronek were limited. TJ Watt and Aaron Rodgers returned as full participants.
Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson sat out their practice with a new ankle injury. He’s missed time this season due to a previous ankle injury, and with knee and toe injuries.
Defensive captain Cam Heyward is well aware of the noise surrounding the Steelers, from calls by ex-Steelers to fire Mike Tomlin to criticism of the faltering defense and dismal offense. He says he is solely focused on the task at hand this Sunday.
Heyward has the keys to a Steelers win on Sunday.
Heyward was asked about ex-teammates Ben Roethlisberger and James Harrison’s criticism of Mike Tomlin. He’s not interested.
Edge rusher Alex Highsmith is this year’s Steelers winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Each team names a winner and the league’s award recipient is named during Super Bowl week. Cam Heyward was the league’s winner two years ago. Highsmith is from Wilmington, North Carolina. His Alex Highsmith Family Foundation is “focused on fostering a legacy of faith, family and football and works to improve the lives of people in both Wilmington and Pittsburgh.”
