The Pitt football team can only wait for its bowl game announcement now after losing to Miami in a route, 38-7, on Saturday. Had Pitt won, they still would not have qualified for the ACC championship game as Virginia beat Virginia Tech to claim the title game slot against surprising Duke, which has five losses but snuck in when Cal shocked SMU.
Miami’s Carson Beck completed 23 of 29 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns for the number 12 Hurricanes. Malachi Toney caught 13 passes for 126 yards and he also threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Elija Lofton in the second quarter, giving the ‘Canes a lead they never gave up.
Pitt finishes the regular season 8-4, and 6-2 in the ACC. Freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel was 22 of 32 for 199 yards and a touchdown and interception. He was sacked four times, all in the first half, and suffered a leg injury but returned to the game.
