Firearms deer season began yesterday and hunters will be in the woods today and next Sunday, December 7th.
There were no reported incidents of accidental shootings on Saturday, but there was at least one fall that resulted in injuries. That happened in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County, where a hunter fell from a tree stand. He was flown from the scene to a Pittsburgh hospital.
Deer season runs through December 13th, More than half a million hunters are expected to take to the woods. There are an estimated 1.5 million deer in Pennsylvania’s woods. Last year, 476,880 deer were harvested by the state’s hunters, with an estimated 283,760 taken during firearm season.
