Yesterday, many shoppers came out to start shopping for the holiday season on “Black Friday”. Local store owners are hopeful that momentum will carry into today with “Small Business Saturday”
The designation of Small Business Saturday started in 2010 as a way for American Express to promote shopping at local businesses as a counterpart to shopping at big box stores on Friday and e-commerce facilities on “Cyber Monday”. Downtown Indiana Executive Director Sam Kenly said that he expects a good amount of business to be done today at the stores in the Indiana Business District.
As a promotional effort, 30 businesses with Downtown Indiana will take part in the Downtown Dollars program once again. If you shop, eat or spend money at one of over 30 downtown businesses, you get a “downtown dollar” back for every 10 you spend. You can use that Downtown Dollar at any of the participating businesses from November 30th to the end of the year.
