The River Valley School Board will meet tonight and consider an agreement with a fire alarm company.
On the proposed agenda is an agreement for $574.53 a year for Johnson Controls Fire Alarm Protection company to provide services at the Blairsville campus. Money from the maintenance budget will be used for this contract.
The board will also take a first look at a policy concerning the vetting of scholastic and supplemental reading materials for kindergarten to fifth graders. According to the draft policy, the goal is to “protect the innocence of elementary students and ensure that all reading materials provided through book fairs, libraries or classroom collections are consistent with the moral and educational values of the River Valley community.” Books would have to go through a vendor review and then a vetting committee, with titles not meeting standards being removed. Parents would be given a list of all the approved books before classroom distribution or book fairs and may ask to opt their child out for specific book fairs or materials. The policy also goes over how a complaint can be filed.
The meeting will start at 7:00 tonight at the River Valley STEAM academy.
