The Penguins put in their first practice since losing back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, and they welcomed another new face to the locker room. Rookie forward Tristan Broz was called up from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, with Philip Thomasino sent down. Broz was the Pens’ 2021 second round draft pick and had eight goals with five assists for Wilkes.
The Penguins also sent rookie defensemen Harrison Brunicke and Jack St. Ivany to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on conditioning assignments. They can stay there for no more than two weeks before either being assigned outright or made subject to some other move. Brunicke would have to be recalled to the Penguins or sent to his junior club. St. Ivany would have to be exposed to waivers to be assigned outright.
The Penguins currently have seven players on injured reserve and forward Bryan Rust was absent yesterday due to illness. Coach Dan Muse says that’s life in the NHL.
Muse says the Pens have a lot of talent in the minors, both veteran and young players.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Ville Koivunen returned to full-contact practice. Both are currently on injured reserve.
The Penguins welcome the Buffalo Sabres to PPG Paints Arena tomorrow night.
PROMISING PROSPECT SIGNS
Peyton Kettles has only played five games this season in junior hockey, and he’s out for the season after having shoulder surgery last week, but the defenseman has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins. The 6-6, 196 pound 18-year-old is going to need six to seven months of rehab before he’s able to play again.
