Pitt built a 28-0 halftime lead over Georgia Tech and held on to defeat the 16th-ranked Yellow Jackets, 42-28, on Saturday.
With Desmond Reid unavailable again, Pitt’s Ja’Kyrian Turner ran for 186 yards , including a 56-yard touchdown dash in the fourth quarter that finally provided the breathing room the Panthers needed, after Georgia Tech had closed to within one score at 35-28.
Mason Heintschel was 20-for-27 passing for 226 yards and three touchdowns, two throwing the ball and one running it in.
Pitt (8-3, 6-1 in the ACC) plays 13th-ranked Miami to close the regular season on Saturday. Kickoff time has not yet been decided.
To qualify for the ACC championship game, Pitt must beat Miami and hope for a loss by either SMU or Virginia.
