Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi has ruled that state police were justified in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Pearce in Deckers Point on October 5th.
Troopers were called to Dixonville Road after Pearce allegedly assaulted a neighbor and rammed a truck into a parked vehicle. Investigators say he appeared paranoid, retrieved a rifle from his home, and fired several shots as neighbors and family members fled.
When police arrived, Pearce reportedly fired at a patrol car and a fire was spotted at his house. He then climbed onto the roof and continued shooting at troopers. Police returned fire, striking Pearce, who slid off the the roof on his own and died at the scene.
In an interview on Indiana in the Morning, DA Manzi praised the responding troopers as heroes who ran toward danger to protect the community.
Toxicology tests showed methamphetamine in Pearce’s system. The case was investigated by state police in Greensburg.
