A Lucernemines teen accused of breaking into vehicles in Indiana Borough is scheduled for a preliminary hearing today.
Court documents show 19-year-old William Zahorchak has been in jail since his arrest on November 6th. Police were called out in the early morning hours to the 100 block of Wherle Way for a report of people going through backyards and breaking into vehicles. Zahorchak and another person fled on foot after they were spotted by officers. He was found hiding behind a bush by police. A satchel found with him had his debit card and other forms of ID, a loaded .38 caliber handgun and some of the stolen items.
Police charged Zahorchak with carrying a firearm without a license, evading arrest or detention on foot, theft by unlawful taking, disorderly conduct and loitering or prowling at night. His bail was set at $50,000. He will go before District Judge Robert Bell Sr. late this morning.
Also due for a preliminary hearing this morning is 50-year-old Cameron Richards of Indiana. He is charged with simple assault and harassment for an incident on November 4th. Indiana Borough Police said that he assaulted a woman at 11:01 PM. Further details were not released. His hearing is set for 10:45 this morning in front of Judge Bell.
