The Penguins held an optional practice yesterday, welcoming back injured goaltender Tristan Jarry and former top draft choice Sam Poulin, who was brought back yesterday from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. They also placed forward Philip Thomasino on waivers and put forward Ville Koivanen on injured reserve. Thomasino can be sent to Wilkes if he clears waivers by 2 PM today.
Coach Dan Muse said the Pens have taken steps to ensure the players’ body clocks adjust from playing in Sweden last weekend and returning to Pittsburgh on Monday.
Jarry was joined at practice by defenseman Jack St. Ivany, who has been on season-long non-roster injured reserve. Injured forwards Rickard Rakell, Justin Brazeau, and Noel Aciari all skated before the practice.
Muse says he not concerned about a possible competition between Jarry and fellow goaltenders Arturs Silovs and Sergei Murashov. He says all three goalies are all just trying to be ready when their name is called.
Sam Poulin was leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in scoring with seven goals and eight assists. He says he has worked hard to get back to Pittsburgh.
The Penguins host the Wild on Friday and the Kraken on Saturday.
