Things were quiet in the Steelers’ locker room at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex yesterday, but there was plenty of intrigue surrounding the team.
With Aaron Rodgers suffering a fractured wrist on his non-throwing side, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that he was told by “people close to (Rodgers) that he will be back very soon” and he “does not want to miss a game.” Rapoport adds that if Rodgers can take a snap and is able to grip the ball, he is “50-50” to start against the Bears on Sunday in Chicago.
The second bit of big news yesterday was the announcement that Bengals wide receiver Ja’Mar Chase was suspended one game by the NFL for spitting at the Steelers’ Jalen Ramsey. If Chase’s appeal is denied, which is expected, it will cost him over $500,000 in salary and bonus money. The NFL maintains three former players who hear appeals of disciplinary actions, one of whom is former Steeler Ramon Foster. Chase’s appeal will be heard by former Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson. Ex-Buccaneer linebacker Derrick Brooks was the league’s other option.
Chase did not speak to the media yesterday and no Steelers personnel were available.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s news conference is scheduled for today at noon.
