While Indiana County’s superintendents expressed some relief for the end of the Pennsylvania budget impasse that lasted four months, some have expressed concerns with the status of education funding.
One feeling that is shared by all is a sense of relief. Rob Heinrich, Superintendent of the Indiana Area School District called it “welcome news”.
However under the initial feeling of relief, some feel confused. Superintendent of the Homer-Center School District Ralph Cecere says he is “befuddled” with some of the details of the new spending plan.
River Valley’s Phillip Martel feels the funds that were allocated are simply not enough.
One other issue that the budget impasse brought up was how to get funding to the schools to keep them going. Penns Manor earlier this month approved taking out a tax and revenue anticipation note to cover expenses until the PA budget was passed. The district would also have to pay interest on that loan. On the same day the news was released that the budget passed, the Penns Manor School Board announced it would not seek that loan.
