The Westmoreland County Airport Authority is borrowing $2.9 million loan to keep money flowing to contractors for the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport Terminal Expansion project.
Airport officials say that an anticipated $6.2 million from state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants has been delayed, and it’s not known if the recent state budget impasse was a factor. Authority executive director Gabe Monzo said that he is hopeful that RACP money will be released in about six months but to be safe, the bridge loan they have taken out is for a one-year period. The loan will be repaid through project funds and will not involve any county dollars.
The project will put an extension to the building, add a new security checkpoint and relocate an existing one, move airport authority staff offices, expand the hold room and add a second passenger gate. The first phase was budgeted at $13 million, with phases two and three costing an additional $3 million each.
