The Steelers returned to practice yesterday, with a Sunday afternoon game against AFC North rival Cincinnati on the way, but there were a number of players unable to suit up because of injuries or illness.
Defensive starters Alex Highsmith and Darius Slay were absent along with reserves Cole Holcomb and Corey Trice, Jr. On the offense, starting tackle Broderick Jones sat out.
Guard Isaac Seumalo returned in a limited capacity after missing last week’s game against the Chargers. Wide receiver Scotty Miller and safety Jabril Peppers were full participants.
Thirteen months after spinal surgery, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. signed with the Steelers yesterday morning and practiced for the first time, afterward saying he felt great and “It’s the healthiest he’s ever been.”

Quarterback Will Howard was activated from injured reserve and will suit up as “QB3” on Sunday. He’s been out since training camp with a hand injury.
