From the US National Weather Service
Here is the latest information regarding the upcoming snowfall that will begin overnight tonight through Tuesday:
– A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for portions of northwest PA as well as the higher terrain southeast of Pittsburgh from 1am tonight through 1pm Tuesday.
– While areas of snow are expected overnight into Monday morning, the potential for higher snowfall rates (increasing the potential for impacts to travel) is highest Monday evening into portions of Tuesday.
– Snow is NOT expected to occur this entire period; the breaks between showers may allow for some melting/settling of snow and cause the snow depth to be less than what is forecasted.
So what are some keys aspects to this forecast that we know and remain uncertain:
– KNOW: It WILL snow and the highest accumulations are likely to occur in the higher terrain of West Virginia.
– DON’T Know: The EXACT location where narrow, heavier bands of snow will develop. This may cause very localized areas to “higher end” amounts with others falling closer to “low end” amounts.
– KNOW: Heavier snow showers Monday evening into Tuesday may create rapid reductions in visibility and create quick coatings of snow on roadways (areawide) that can impact travel on roadways.
Remember, this is an overview of the upcoming snow for the entire region and is meant to serve as a awareness message so individuals can better prepare for any impacts it could cause on their daily routines.
