The Pirates reshaped the lower end of their 40-man roster this week, hoping to upgrade the upper end. The Bucs announced yesterday that pitcher Jared Jones and catcher Endy Rodriguez were activated along with outfielder Ronny Simon, infielder Enmanuel Valdez, and pitcher Ryan Harbin.
The Pirates designated five players for assignment. Former top prospect Liover Peguero went unclaimed and was assigned to Indianapolis but could opt for minor league free agency. Utility man Ji Hwan Bae was claimed by the Mets and pitcher Jack Little was claimed by the Tigers. Pitchers Michael Darrell-Hicks and Dugan Darnell were also DFA’d.
Free agency opened at 5 PM yesterday.
The Pirates also announced the PiratesFest will return to a one-day format and will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on January 24th from 10 AM to 6 PM. It will be free but you must have an e-ticket, which you can get at Pirates.com/piratesfest
