Police in Indiana Borough have charged a Lucernemines teen with theft and carrying a firearm without a license in an incident early Thursday morning.
Police were dispatched at 12:42 AM to the 100 Block of Wherle Way for a report of people going through backyards and breaking into vehicles. Police said 19-year-old William Zahorchak and another person fled on foot after officers spotted them. Police found him hiding behind a bush after a brief chase. A search of a satchel found with him turned up some stolen items along with his debit card and other pieces of identification and a loaded .38 caliber handgun.
Zahorchak was taken into custody on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, evading arrest or detention on foot, theft by unlawful taking, disorderly conduct and loitering and prowling at night. He was arraigned yesterday and was placed in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for November 19th.
